PHOTO CONTEST

As a part of the Charting New Frontiers in Rural Women's Health Conference (Conference), the Office on Women's Health (OWH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), invites photographers, ages 15 years and older, from all levels of expertise to enter their remarkable images of rural health and rural life in the Charting New Frontiers in Rural Women's Health Photo Contest.

There are two categories in which to submit entries:

Rural Health - Events, people, objects or activities that demonstrate or represent the provision of rural health care.
Rural Life- Animals, rural communities and landscapes.

A distinguished panel of independent judges will select the semi-finalists from all entries received. Participants at the Conference will select the seven winning photographs from the semi-finalists. OWH will award first, second and third place prizes in both the Rural Health and Rural Life categories, as well as one over-all grand prize. The entries of all winners and semi-finalists will be published on the Conference Web site, and the winners and selected semi-finalists will be published in the Final Conference Report. Prizes will be awarded on the final day of the Conference, August 15, 2007.

PHOTO CONTEST RULES

Contest submissions must be uploaded by 2:00 p.m., Eastern Time, Friday, May 4, 2007.
Photographers ages 15 and over are eligible to submit photographs.
The photographer must hold all rights to submitted photographs, especially any photos in which a person is recognizable.
Photographs that violate or infringe upon another person's copyright are not eligible.
Photographers must secure a release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject's parent or guardian. A Sample Release Form is available by clicking here.
All photographs must be submitted via this Web site. No photographs will be accepted through the mail.
No more than three photographs per category may be submitted.
Scans of non-digital photographs are acceptable.
Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible, and in .jpeg, .jpg or .gif format.
Finalists may be asked to submit a high-resolution file of at least 300 dpi at 5 x 7 inches or an original negative, print or slide. OWH judges reserve the right to disqualify contestants who are unable to meet this requirement.
Original photographs will not be returned to finalists.
Each photograph should be submitted with a caption of up to 60 words that identifies where and when the photo was taken.
All judging decisions are final.

A representative on behalf of OWH will notify the semi-finalists of their status by June 20, 2007. Please do not contact us about the status of entries.

By entering the contest, entrants grant DHHS the right to publish and use submitted photographs in print or electronic format for advertising and promotion of government programs, for exhibition, and for government programs, products and services, including but not limited to DHHS publications. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit.
