Workshop Summary

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Center for Research Resources will host a 1-½-day workshop in conjunction with the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Education and Career Development Steering Committee to develop national standards and core credentialing competencies for clinical and translational science. The goal of the workshop is to create a national set of core competencies for clinician-scientists that will define the discipline of Clinical and Translational Science.

Key Topics of Discussion:

  • Define the spectrum of learners in clinical and translational science, including multidisciplinary representation and degree categories
  • Identify a set of core competencies for training translational research clinician-scientists
  • Discuss the need for national standards for a core clinical research curriculum that is aligned with core competencies

Intended Workshop Audience:
Participants will include the CTSA Education and Career Development Steering Committee members, clinical research training program directors, officials from government agencies that fund clinical and translational training programs, and the trans-NIH Education and Career Development Subcommittee members.
